Thank you for your question regarding what to do with your abdominal pannus after a massive weight of 104 pounds and problems with ambulation. During a panniculectomy, there is almost no limit on the amount of skin and fat that can be removed. In your case, skin and fat can be removed from hip to hip; this is what I would suggest for your abdomen. This amount of skin and fat can be safely removed in one surgery. The amount of skin and fat can be removed is up to your plastic surgeon’s and your anesthesiologist’s discretion. The main drawback back to your panniculectomy would be your history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Guillain-Barre Syndrome may cause some issues with general anesthesia. It is very important that you discuss these issues with your plastic surgeon and anesthesiologist ahead of time. However, I believe the benefits of your panniculectomy would far outweigh the potential complications of anesthesia for a patient with Guillain-Barre Syndrome . Thank you for your question regarding what to do with your abdominal pannus after massive weight loss, and a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
