I had a panniculectomy on March 1st. I am just wondering if the skin/tissue needs to reconnect to the abdominal muscles (photo)

Thank you for your question regarding bulging areas on your abdomen after a panniculectomy. It is impossible to tell without a physical examination if you have a seroma or not. It is important you follow up with your plastic surgeon to determine if this is normal due to post-operative swelling or is indeed a seroma. All patients swell after a panniculectomy.  Therefore, post-operative swelling is not uncommon, but not all patients develop a seroma. If it is indeed a seroma, seromas can usually be easily managed by needle aspiration done in the office under local anesthesia. The seroma may need to be drained several times before complete resolution.
