I have been performing professional medical microneedling for over twenty-two years. Although I know that, microneedling of late has been marketed heavily as a primary treatment for acne scars of all types, it frankly is far from ideal for this purpose. Asking microneedling to improve deep boxcar and rolling scars would be like asking a hammer to screw in a screw. A hammer is a fine instrument, but only for driving in a nail or pulling one out. Likewise, professional microneedling is a wonderful means of improving superficial surface texture and color issues, but far from the best choice as a stand-alone treatment for achieving significant improvement in deeper boxcar and rolling scars. And the hard science is lacking to substantiate any additional benefits for the use of radiofrequency microneedling over conventional microneedling and of relatively expensive PRP over simply microneedling to the point of producing pinpoint bleeding. In general, even when microneedling is being performed for the right indications, it typically takes between two and four treatment sessions to achieve optimal improvement. I hope this helps. Best of luck.
