Recently, Glutathione has been trending as a way to lighten and brighten one's skintone. There are various methods from IV treatments to daily oral supplements. Is glutathione safe to use for the purpose of skin lightening? What is the safest method? What is the most effective method?

This is difficult to answer without pictures and needs an in-person evaluation. Pigmentation can be improved with a combination of lasers, Aerolase, microneedling/(RF/)prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. Glutathione is naturally produced by the body. Some people may want more of it for medical reasons or for other purposes such as skin lightening. You may have heard of IV therapy. It is a procedure where a concoction is delivered directly into the bloodstream. This allows a higher concentration of minerals and vitamins into the system.

I much prefer Cosmelan or chemical peels for skin lightening. IV Gultathione is not safe for this type of treatment.  If you have melasma or pigmentation it is best to consult with a board certified dermatologist to treat the darkness safely and effectively.  Best, Dr. Green
