Intralesional injections of an anti-inflammatory agent, such as triamcinolone acetonide, have been a first line treatment for hypertrophic scars (elevated scars) from all causes for many decades--and with an excellent track record for efficacy. Personally, I have not found silicone patches, gels, etc. to be of much use and seldom recommend them. And today's trendy and expensive "bells and whistles" light and energy-based treatments, such as fraxel lasers and RF devices, remain supported and promoted by a whole lot of marketing hype and social media buzz, but unfortunately lack the hard science to back them up.
