If minoxidil changes the texture/colour of existing healthy hair follicles, are the follicles now minoxidil dependent for life?

After only 7 months of use minoxidil has drastically changed the texture of my existing hair (not new growth). If I stop the minoxidil can my previous texture return? Are these follicles now minoxidil dependent for life after only 7 months?
