Dear Access19, Thank you for your clinical post. This kind of question is always a very difficult one to answer as a physician, but you are fortunate in that you live in Canada as the most populated city where there are a lot of excellent cosmetic plastic surgeons. Rhinoplasty is a specialized procedure and there are many physicians even in the City of Toronto that do an excellent job at creating very attractive and natural nasofacial balance and proportion. When seeking out a rhinoplasty physician a good reputation and experience are usually important features that you should consider. I was fortunate to be trained in both plastic surgery and ear, nose, throat, head and neck oncology and have been performing rhinoplasty surgery for over 20 years. In my practice it certainly has been proven valuable to review with a patient computer imaging of simulated nasal surgery the kind of outcomes that I know after many years of experience I should be able to get close to achieving. This computer imaging helps alleviate patient’s concerns about the kinds of outcomes they’ll get with nasofacial balance and proportion alteration. Nasal surgery requires an excellent eye and surgical skill and experience and generally these three things need to come together for most patients to get an excellent result. There is also the factor of functional airway surgery that needs to be assessed at the time of the cosmetic rhinoplasty and reductive surgery often results in compromising the airway and the functional valves of the airway, which need to be addressed and supported at the time of the rhinoplasty. Having said all this and being one of the more senior and experienced rhinoplasty surgeons in the city, Dr. Peter Adamson, Dr. David Ellis, Dr. Richard Rival, Dr. Phil Solomon, Dr. Bernd Neu and Dr. Oakley Smith would be some of the more senior rhinoplasty surgeons that get excellent results that would, of course, include myself and there are some younger well trained rhinoplasty surgeons with less experience, but good reputations as well such as Dr. Jamil Ahmad who trained at the University of Texas Southwestern as well as Dr. Jamil Asaria are young rhinoplasty surgeons I have heard good things about, as well. At the end of the day do your research, get multiple consultations, look for before and afters and patient testimonials, computer simulated surgery during your consultation and a good gut feeling of what you’re trying to achieve and the team that’s going to achieve it for you and with you. I hope this information has been of some assistance and best of luck. For more information, please review the link below. R. Stephen Mulholland, M.D. Certified Plastic Surgeon Yorkville, Toronto
