Tooth that was being rotated with braces now hurts with retainer. Why? (photo)

Question

I had braces for 3 and a half years and I got them removed today. My canine was being rotated and it took so long that I decided to get the braces removed. When I put my top retainers in the tooth needs to be rotated is hurting me really bad and I don't know why. My dentist said it was and there is no damage. Why does it hurt I hate putting in my top retainer.

I can't tell much from the quality of your picture, but based on what you've reported, I would suggest returning to your dentist to have your retainer adjusted.  If it can not be adjusted, you may need another retainer.  The most important thing here is that you wear your retainer for several years.  However, if your retainers always hurt because they never fit properly since conception, then you are likely to stop wearing your retainer, which will likely cause your teeth to relapse pretty quickly.  This would waste all the money and time you spent in braces.  Good luck to you and I hope this helps. It is difficult to comment on your case because I don't know how difficult it was to start and any other treatment clinical details.  However, it should be that a tooth can be rotated in 6 months, even if it is severe.  I would recommend you get retainers and wear them ( have them adjusted if they are too painful) otherwise there will be a tendency for your teeth to move and you will need braces back on.
