Broken tooth to gumline - do I need to see a dentist asap and can it be fixed without extraction? (photo)

The back inside quarter of my tooth in front of my molar broke off down to the gumline while eating. I noticed it right away and went to look and found the gum line bleeding. No pain yet. Is this consider an emergency that needs to be address ASAP? Is there a possibility it can be built back up wil something or will I need a root canal and crown?
