Ankle veins, whether they are spider and reticular veins or varicose veins may be an indication that you have venous insufficiency. This pattern of veins is called an 'ankle flare' or corona phlebectasia, also known as 'crowning of the ankle with veins'. Crowning = Corona. Get a Duple venous scan and this will answer the question as to how to proceed further - simple sclerotherapy or endovenous ablation plus sclerotherapy. If these ankle veins bother you then then can be treated by sclerotherapy or removal through micro (2mm) incisions.  If the veins are only localized to this ankle area then this is all that is necessary. If you have many other veins then you may want to see a vein specialist and have a vein evaluation with a venous reflux ultrasound.
