Both Thermage and Ultherapy are expensive. In my clinic, I prefer Thermage and do not offer Ultherapy. Thermage is as expensive as it is because of the cost of the consumable associated with each treatment and because of the cost of the device itself. Thermage is made by Solta which is the company behind Fraxel and Clear + Brilliant. The device works when used in the appropriate patient. Thermage is a onetime treatment with consistent results in my experience without any downtime. When it comes to nonsurgical skin tightening, it is the gold standard device in my experience with a 15 year record of results, and countless medical studies to back up it up.
I love my Thermage laser for skin tightening. The new FLX Thermage laser has even better results and faster times for treatments. I much prefer Thermage over Ultherapy for results and for the fact that it has no pain and no down time at all. Since the procedure is user dependent please consult an expert in Thermage for the best results. Best, Dr. Green
My feelings exactly- Thermage can be an excellent treatment in select skin types, the thicker the dermal layer,, the better the treatment (general statement), again a general statement- Ethic skin will respond better. Company denies any of this (marketing). Cost? Well the tip itself cost $1000, device even though its old its remarketed as CTP technology- low cost for the company, high cost for the doctor, good marketing. So, why do we still use it ? Demand by those who Thermage has worked, hence a population biased. This device is made by the company that sells Fraxel- again consumables - they make some excellent devices such as the Fraxel 1927 and diode driven C and B, and some horrible ones, like the CO2 RePair- with consumables. No Co2 laser should need a rolling pulse stacking head, the same goes for RF technology, its all about marketing their devices and gaining consumable profits. Hence the cost. I am not a big fan of marketing devices, but in some cases like Fraxel 1927, its great, but the cost is passed down to the consumer for older devices like Thermage and Fraxel RePair. Consumables are crazy expensive, especially in Australia - in some cases consumables are 70% more than the US or in Asia. Thermage is excellent, in select cases as Dr Green suggested. I do believe there is a racial biased due to collagen contraction and thickness with Thermage- definitely an advantage in Ethnic patients. I also engage Ultherapy in other cases where Thermage may not be suitable. Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
