My face is covered with small red/ purple veins. They are most prominent on my nose and chin, though they cover my cheeks as well. I have received 2 Candela V-Beam treatments followed by 2 IPL treatments all roughly a little over a month apart. I have yet to see ANY results. I understand that treating this problem takes time, but I am reluctant to schedule more sessions. Should I continue with IPL treatments or is it best to switch back to the V-Beam? Are there any other options?
Answer: Rosacea and broken capillaries - Buffalo Niagara, NY If you have rosacea, that must be treated concurrently with antibiotics and lasers. Once the inflammatory condition is under control, lasers or IPL technology will help control, treat and eradicate the 'broken capillaries'.You may need 3-7 or more treatments and you should get packages of 3 treatments at a time, not more, to see whether or not the goals are met before you pay for more. Be patient and understand that more than 3 treatments are necessary to treat these very small (<< 1 mm) vessels that are quite resilient.

Answer: Many options.
This is a very frequently asked question. From what you describe it is important to first ensure that you do not have rosacea or another medical condition contributing to the problem. Once this is done, then there are several options for treatment including topical laser(there are many kinds that work), sclerotherapy, microneedle RF, VeinWave, VeinGogh
and IPL. The treatment offered is usually dependent on the training and experience of the treating physician. I don't think that there is any 'BEST" treatment but it depends on your vein size, location and quantity. Usually any of these methods require multiple sessions spaced out over 3-4 week intervals to achieve results.

Answer: Multiple treatments
the bottom line is that which ever device you choose multiple (approxiamately ) 5 treatments are necessary to achieve the improvement you want. It also depends on the number of blood vessels you have.

Answer: Treatment for Facial Vessels/ Rosacea
Facial vessels can be very stubborn and multiple treatments are often necessary especially if you suffer from Rosacea which will require additional maintenance treatments. However you should be seeing a difference in the number of vessels after receiving 4 treatments. Unfortunately a lot of the success of your treatment is dependent on the technician and what type of IPL you are receiving. There is a steep learning curve when it comes to safe and effective treatments. I would recommend that you discuss your lack of results with your provider. If they can not give you some hope for better result in the future seek out a different provider and make sure you have a copy of your treatment sheets so that your new provider can see what has already been tried and adjust accordingly. In our office, our goal is to decrease the number of visible vessels 40-50% with each treatment provided. Photos are taken each visit and feed back is requested to determine if the patient was able to see a difference, if there was any prolonged healing and if any of the health history has changed since last visit. Also you need to do your part to help. Avoid unprotected sun exposure. If you have had an increase in tan/color from sun exposure we either have to postpone treatment or decrease the energy used. I hope that this information helps and gives you hope to get outstanding results in the future.
