Best option to improve smile and give straight teeth, without any overcrowding and gaps? (Photo)

Question

I'm 21 and have uneven/ wonky teeth from years of thumb sucking as a child. I lost a baby tooth (a couple of weeks ago), my top right canine. As you can see from the pictures I also have overcrowding where the adult canine did actually come through (before the baby tooth came out) but it is in front of my molar. I also do not feel as if my jaw is even/ lines up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there Gg,You have a few options, so I will list the 2 options that seem most obvious to me.Option #1:  You could have a cosmetic dentist fix your teeth in 1 or 2 appointments with veneers and crowns.  The fix would be instant and permanent.  Your teeth would be the exact shade that you choose from a selection of white shades and you should expect this to last you more than 30 years, if you maintain good dental hygiene.  This means, brushing and flossing everyday and getting a cleaning at the dentist twice per year.  The shade of your teeth would be stain resistant and would be expected to last as long as the veneers them self. Option #2:  You could choose ortho.  Using metal braces or Invisalign clear aligners, you should consider a process of what I estimate to be about 2 years of treatment.  Additionally, you will need bridgework and teeth whitening, if you are a good candidate.  Teeth whitening is not permanent, and not as effective as placing veneers.Ultimately, you have to choose an option that suits you best.  Follow me if you have any additional questions.Take care.

You have numerous options available to you. Some options are obviously better than others. I can tell you what I would recommend if you were my patient. I would begin by developing your underdeveloped palate (caused by the thumb sucking). This step is critical because it will eliminate your existing crossbites, improve the health of your airway and TMJ and improve facial aesthetics. I would use a simple, comfortable removable appliance to accomplish the palatal development and also help move the permanent canine into its proper position.Once proper palatal development is achieved I would use conventional braces or clear aligners to straighten the teeth. The total treatment time should be 1 1/2 - 2 years.Good luck!
