What is the Difference Between High Cheekbones and Prominent Cheekbones?

Question

Aren't these words used interchangeably? I never knew the difference between prominent and high cheekbones/

Jason Emer, MD · Answer

For unique cases where a variety of modalities could be used to treat the condition, I would suggest an in person or virtual consultation to develop a custom and effective treatment plan. It is difficult to precisely define the best option without collecting the same information. I suggest reaching out to an expert for a consultation with surgical and non-surgical methods to get a comprehensive option. Best, Dr. Emer.

Michael I. Echavez, MD · Answer

Although the medical term for enhancing the cheek bones would be called malar augmentation, the more familiar terms would be known as obtaining high cheek bones or more prominent cheek bones. The terms are interchangeable.

William Portuese, MD · Answer

High cheekbones and prominent cheekbones are terms that mean the same thing. Cheek implants are performed for flat cheeks to give more prominent and high cheekbones.

Lawrence Kass, MD · Answer

These two terms can be used interchangeably. If you were not blessed with this naturally, it can be attained with fillers, implants, and with cheek lift procedures.

Richard W. Fleming, MD (retired) · Answer

These two terms mean the same thing. High cheekbones will improve facial contours, projection, and proportion as well as give you a more rested, youthful appearance.
