Had a temp crown put on front teeth. Cement is overlapping the gum line behind a tooth. Was this supposed to be clean off?

Just had a temporary crown put on front teeth. There is cement overlapping the gum line behind one of the teeth? Was my dentist supposed to clean that off? It doesn’t feel right.

Hi:There should not be excess cement around the temporary.  It’s best to go to your dentist to make sure all the cement is taken off.Best,Dr. Maddahi

If you feel it is excessive and uncomfortable, go back to your dentist and have them look at it. It could be a quick easy fix of removing excess cement or it could be that the temporary crown needs to be trimmed down a little. What you don't want is to leave anything overlapping the gums as that will irritate the area and can make cementing the permanent crown difficult.

All excess cement from a temporary crown cementation should be removed before you leave the office. If there’s still excess cement on the gum you should tell them and have them remove it.
