Is tattoo Dermabrasion still a thing? (Photo)

Thanks for your question and photos.  Dermabrasion is a very old technique using sterilized sandpaper to basically eradicate the surface skin and help stimulate healing.  It is useful after skin cancer excisions and Mohs surgery that leave irregular scars, but is rarely used anymore for tattoo removal.  A much better technique would be laser tattoo removal, either with a Q-Switched Nd:yag laser or a Pico laser.  It takes a lot of treatments, spaced about 8 weeks apart, but technology today is much more advanced than dermabrasion for tattoo removal.  Please see a board certified dermatologist with experience in laser tattoo removal for your best recommendations, and good luck!

The Picosure Laser works great on all ink, including colors. It may take as many as 10 sessions for that size pieces, each treatment spaced 8 weeks apart (so your body has time to break down and metabolize the ink). So while it can be a slow process it is definitely an effective one!
