Do I need to replace upper back molars?

I am getting two upper molars removed, #15 and #2 (one on each side). I was told by my dentist that I would be ok not replacing them and I would not have any tooth shifting since they are way in the back and teeth tend to shift forward not backward. I do worry about my jaw and the sunken cheek look with aging. What are your thoughts?

Your dentist is correct, you do not HAVE to replace the back teeth if you do not want to.  However, if you feel uncomfortable it's best to have implants placed.  If it were me, I would have the implants placed.  You are also right about the sunken cheek look.  Teeth are the only things that support our upper lip and add fullness in the area.  It will help to have the back teeth to support that area as well.

If you had two fingers removed would you worry about function of your hand?  Wake up people!  Teeth are organs and just because you have a bunch of them does not mean they're expendable!

The information you are receiving is accurate.  However if you are not comfortable leaving these spaces empty you can always have implant supported crowns placed.  Good luck!
