I am interested in scheduling lip repositioning surgery with a doctor in Florida hopefully to fix how high my upper lip curls when I smile. Could anyone advise whether this would be the best rout to go? After contacting one doctor she advised that I may need to shave the bone area above the lip before surgery but I'm not sure if that is necessary or not.

You can get some corrective gum surgery to move the lips down. The other option is to move your whole jaw bones in the upper teeth upwards with what is called maxillary impaction and orthognathic surgery. Don't worry there are people out there that can help.
