Can laser resurfacing remove superficial scarring? (Photo)

Question

How effective is Laser Resurfacing at removing injured skin and which would be best for my oil burn injury ? I’m considering Contour TRL, my understanding is it can remove up to 1 mm of surface skin so will the new skin heal back uniform and normally?

Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery.

Thank you for sharing your questions and posting your photo. Treating the scar with an erbium laser often improves the appearance of scars, whereas some other lasers generate heat which could cause problems. See an experienced oculofacial surgeon for consultation.

You have many options when it comes to scars. for the type of scar that i see in the picture an ablative laser treatment such as Erbium:YAG or CO2 can have a drastic effect and improve this issue. CO2 laser treatment also encourages the body to produce more collagen, the protein responsible for keeping the skin strong and healthy. With more collagen, the skin can withstand damage more effectively and look younger for longer periods of time. Given the laser’s intensity, results are marked and patients can expect full recovery within 7-10 days.
