1 day post op Lip fillers, how do I minimize this swelling in the shortest amount of time? (photos)

After lip augmentation with Restylane or Juvederm the filler material will absorb some degree of water and cause swelling in the lips.  Usually the greatest amount of swelling will come the day after the injection, and will resolve over 3-4 days.  Avoiding salty foods and icing the lips after injection will limit the amount of swelling, but they will still swell quite a bit initially.  

Thank you for your question. Yes, you are correct that swelling is common after lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid fillers which can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. You can help reduce swelling by applying cold compresses to the treated area(s). It is also advisable to avoid any NSAID’s such as ibuprofen before and after treatment as they tend to thin the blood and increase bruising and swelling. I do not recommend having fillers done within a week before an event. If you have any other concerns please follow up with your injector. Best of Luck!

You are correct that swelling is a normal part of the filler process. The ice and head elevation are the most important for the first 48 hours. I also recommend taking the supplements arnica and bromelin which will help with the bruising and swelling. I know this is hindsight, but in general I never recommend fillers within a week of any public event. It will get better. Best of luck
