Have my lip fillers gone wrong? Heavy bruising and duck face (Photo)

While swelling that bad is not the typical case, it is not out of the realm of normal.  The swelling should improve dramatically over the next 3-4 days.  The hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane do absorb some water initially, which also contributes to the plump appearance of the lips.  The lips should become more normal in appearance as this swelling resolves.  Follow up with your surgeon if this is not the case, and the excess filler may be dissolved with an additional injection.

Although you do look more swollen than usual, there are steps that can be taken to reduce the swelling.  I advise my patients to ice the area for up to 10 minutes every hour.  Reusable ice packs can be used or a bag of frozen peas can be used to mold over the area.  A short course of steroid can accelerate the healing process.  Anectotally, Arnica forte can be used to prevent bruising, but no definitive evidence exists to suggest that is always successful.  If the swelling does not subside then hyaluronic acid based fillers can be depolymerized (dissolved) with injection of hyaluronidase.
It would be best to contact your treating practitioner to seek advice going forward.  I hope this helps.

If the severe swelling and "duck lip" occurred overnight and not immediately after the treatment then this is likely swelling that will improve over the next 7-10 days. Either way, I would contact your physician injector and pose the same question. If it does not resolve then hyaluronic acid fillers can be refined with hyaluronidase treatment. Thank you for your question. It is too soon at 1-day post-treatment to determine what your final results will be. However, it is common to have some swelling and bruising after lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid fillers which can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. You can help reduce swelling by applying cold compresses to the treated area. As HA fillers are not permanent you can have them dissolved with hyaluronidase if unhappy with the results. Hi expensive1,First, the good news. The amount of swelling has no relation whatsoever to the final results. In short, you can be this swollen and still have beautiful results. There are many reasons why some people swell more than others. The filler used, injection technique, your body chemistry and whether you adhered to pre-op instructions are factors that influence swelling.Please get in touch with your doctor as the swelling may last upto two weeks. In general, ice no more than 30 seconds at a time during the first two days. On the third day, you can massage but closely follow your doctor's instructions. Taking Arnica supplements may work.Your doctor may consider a short course of steroids.
