My left nostril is completely blocked after rhinoplasty.

Question

I am two weeks post rhinoplasty and my left nostril is completely blocked by some swelling and red lump attached to septum. Air passage gets narrower everyday. However my right nostril functions very well. I am using antibiotic cream and isotonic spray but doesn't help much with left nostril. I had polyp removed from left side and deviated septum corrected. I have allergic rhinitis. What is happening to my left nostril? Is this situation normal?

It is difficult to tell from photos the cause of your blockage.  Since you are only a few weeks out, it could simply be swelling or dried blood and/or mucus.  If it continues, you should contact your surgeon for evaluation.

An examination should be all that is necessary to diagnose and treat your worsening left nasal obstruction after rhinoplasty. A red bump in your nasal vestibulum could be - caudal septal inflammation, septal hematoma, pyogenic granuloma. Please get this checked by your surgeon. Wishing you well moving forward. Dr Joseph
