Can a summer of sun exposure months prior to laser be helpful?

I have a large multicolored back tattoo I would like to laser next winter. Would it be helpful to allow frequent sun exposure through the summer and get some preliminary fading?

Getting frequent sun exposure prior to laser treatment for tattoo removal is certainly not helpful. In fact, it can be quite detrimental. Tanned skin will absorb the laser energy that should be treating the tattooed area. As such, results may not be as effective. Additionally, tanned skin can absorb too much of the energy from the laser, which could result in side effects such as blistering, hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin), or hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin).Certainly there is no such thing as a "safe tan." The perceived benefits of slightly fading the tattoo are certainly not worth the risks. Protect the tattooed area (and your skin in general) not only during the summer months, but year round! This will ensure the best results will be achieved when you treat your tattoo in the fall or winter.

Sun exposure will not fade it more.  Fading results from your body trying to eliminate the pigment with you white blood cell system.  Also, no physician would likely use a laser on tanned or sun-burned skin.  The complications could be severe.
