Can Submucosal Tissue Grow Back After a Microdebrider Turbinate Reduction?

had a bilateral turbinate reduction done with out fracture using a microdebrider. Not talking just about reswelling but if it is possible for the submucosal tissue cells regenerate after surgery and not just hypertrophy.

The inferior turbinates will regenerate enough to repair the mucosal defect. The bone will not grow back. The submucosal plexus of veins and arteries will expand as will the mucosa and can effectively block your nose again. The real question is: are you breathing well after your procedure? If you are not then the nasal mucosa may have swollen to a point where you may require additional treatment such as nasal steroids or additional inferior turbinate removal.

In my opinion the most effective permanent solution to enlarged turbinates is removing with special scissors about 30% of the inferior turbinates  and suction cautery of the posterior portion.  This has worked well in my hands over 25 years.

It is true that the mucous membranes of the turbinates can recurrently swell/enlarge despite nasal surgery, often triggered by chronic inflammation and allergies. Bone tissue removed from the turbinates during microdebrider reduction will not grow back, the mucosa can become edematous and swollen once again. A good option here is nasal steroid sprays, or the possibility of another turbinate reduction.
