Breast reduction and uplift scheduled - will general anesthesia be dangerous for me?

Hi I’m having a breast reduction in April with uplift I’m 42 years old 9stone 4lbs I’m very very scared about it going wrong, the pain or not even waking up I’m booked in for Istanbul but am from the uk I have a low b12 and potassium I smoke although I am going to stop before and I drink alcohol although won’t nearer the operation Will a general anesetic be dangerous for me

All patients who go under plastic surgery should have normal levels of potassium. Your heart relies on potassium for critical functions. Therefore, potassium balance must be maintained to ensure safe anesthesia. 
At my practice, we require complete bloodwork for our patients prior to their surgeries to ensure it's safe for them to undergo any procedure. Please make sure you let your surgeon know as soon as possible so he is aware of your condition. Good luck.

Thanks for your question! Anesthesia has risks associated, but they are generally low. Smoking will definitely complicate surgery and pose more risks. I would strongly encourage you to quit sooner than later. Best of luck!

Each patient's medical history and a physical exam need to be considered to determine if a person is a good candidate for surgery, which includes safety regarding general anesthesia.  Typically general anesthesia is very safe when administered and monitored by a board certified anesthesiologist in an accredited facility.  You will want to have your potassium levels addressed prior to surgery.  Smoking cessation is crucial to the success of surgery and  healthy healing.  I encourage you to speak with your surgeon about your concerns.
