Are there alternatives to lidocaine cream that can be used for IPL?

Hi - I have a type IV delayed hypersensitivity reaction to Lidocaine and after testing with an allergist have found I am allergic to lidocaine. I had one IPL photofacial and I love the photofacial results but the one IPL I had a few years ago resulted in the worst rash ever. Any alternatives to lidocaine cream? I found the treatment was very painful even with it.

Thank you for your question. If you have any skin sensitivities, it will be hard to get the area numbed to prevent pain. Photofacials are usually tolerated without any topical anesthetic. This depends on how high the settings are. The other option would be a vibratory device that can be heard on your skin to help “trick your brain” and this I find works well with patients.
