If I get exposed to sunlight after laser treatment for acne, what will happen to me?

Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery.

Hello, the reason for you not being able to have direct sun exposure after a laser treatment is because the laser stimulates your cells.  Going in and out of classrooms is going to be ok.  I would recommend using a hat or even an umbrella.  Elta Md has a good SPF that has minimal chemicals along with Blue Lizard.  You're biggest concern would be hyperpigmentation.  I would just suggest just protecting the best way you can.

I recommend following up with your cosmetic dermatologist about recommendations for sun protection that you can use. Sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation, but with limited exposure and adequate protection (sunscreen, hat, etc.), this will help reduce your risk. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thanks for your question, but you need to take responsibility for your health.  You can not be allergic to every sun screen.  There is something you could wear.  Secondly, WEAR A HAT.  You are making things much more difficult than they really are.  Best of luck.
