crown put on age 11,new dentist. I'll prob be in debt forever after all the work I've had done. New dentist has placed 3 more crowns and a bridge in. Current issue: upper had rootcanal, and crown. Only to have it break off (and at a lovely business dinner) So now the short version is that I go to b wind up w root canal and crown. NOW, is it common for crowns to be removed likE this? I'm terrified since my FRONT TEETH are crowned too! I've NEVER HEARD OF A CROWN BEING PULLED, EVER...

Teeth that are root canal treated are definitely more likely to need an extraction at some point. Those teeth are typically more broken down and weaker than if they didn't need a root canal to begin with. However, the fact that a tooth has had a root canal does not condemn it for failure. There are a number of reasons why your teeth needed to come out and/or broke which does not necessarily mean that the remaining teeth with root canals and/or crown should need to come out or will break. To me, it sounds like you need to have a comprehensive approach to your oral situation so that your mouth can be stabilized. Don't worry, there is a way!

Hi, thanks for write... Is not common that teeth with roots canal finish in extractions, depends on the ability of endodontist and the filling or dental crown over.

While it is not common to have root canal treated teeth need extraction, they are more likely than other teeth.  The process to clean out a root canal system leaves a hollowed out tooth, that is filled but won't be as strong as a living tooth.  These teeth also can be a challenge to maintain, as decay won't create any symptoms to warn of problems until the teeth are too far gone.Also, if a tooth has a root canal, it MUST have a crown on top.  Often people skip that part of treatment, so a root canaled tooth WITHOUT a crown is HIGHLY likely to break.Teeth that were crowned but NO root canal are NOT prone to break.
