I had a root canal on a molar years ago and have had no issues since. Today, while chewing trident (the only gum we have due to my son's braces), I felt something hard. It appears to be a small piece of tooth. My molar feels different, but does not hurt. I believe this is one of the little spikes bits on top. Do I need to call my dentist? I was there for routine cleaning and xrays last week and everything was fine.

You really should not have any restrictions with your gold crown. You should always stay away from extremely hard things such as ice cubes and "rock candy" on all of your teeth to avoid chipping or breaking them, but otherwise you should be ok. Hope this helps.
A tooth that has had two root canals and still causing you pain is not a good sign. I would recommend that you schedule an appointment with a dentist soon. There is a decent chance that this tooth may need to be extracted and have a dental implant placed. Best of luck.
If you have lost a post and crown and the remaining tooth has decay it is very likely that this tooth is not restorable and should be extracted. It is always best to plan for a dental implant for the extracted tooth if possible. Ask your dentist about this option.
