Hello! I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy July of 2025 and I’ve lost around 120lbs since. I’ve started to notice some loose skin already and one of the most noticeable areas is my “side boob”. The rolls on my side next to my breasts bother me got around 60lbs until my goal weight, so I’m assuming it’ll get worse. Ive seen healed photos of bra line back lifts and the scars never look like they heal well, in my opinion they always look sttetched out. Would that be my only option to solve my side boob problem? Thank you

First of all, congratulations on your weight loss journey. Losing 120 lbs is a significant achievement.

Based on the photo and the amount of weight you have already lost, I would expect that once you reach your goal weight, you may benefit from both a breast lift and a back lift to address the excess skin around the breasts, side chest, and upper back area. These procedures are usually recommended as separate surgeries rather than being performed at the same time.

Unfortunately, the "side boob" area is often caused by excess skin extending beyond the breast itself, so a breast lift alone may not completely correct it. A back lift is typically the most effective way to remove that excess tissue and create a smoother contour.

Regarding the scars, I understand your concern. Poorly positioned scars or scars placed under too much tension can become widened over time. However, with careful surgical planning and proper technique, it is possible to achieve a well-positioned scar that remains concealed within the bra line and heals very nicely in most patients.

I would recommend waiting until you are close to your goal weight before making any final surgical decisions, as the amount of excess skin can change considerably with further weight loss.
