Is this Urethrocele? (Photo)

Question

After my vaginal delivery, I’ve had an odd bump under my urethral outlet. It’s not actually coming out of the outlet (so that rules out urethral prolapse / caruncle). Is it a dropped urethra, prominent urethra, or urethrocele? I have no SUI or bladder issues.

Thank you for sharing your concern — I know it can be unsettling to notice a new change in such a sensitive area after childbirth. Vaginal delivery can naturally alter the appearance of the tissues around the urethra and vaginal opening, and many women see new folds or small bulges that weren’t there before.

Based on your description, a small bump just beneath the urethral opening — especially one that isn’t coming from the urethra itself — is more commonly due to normal postpartum changes, such as:

A prominent urethral mound, which can look more noticeable after the tissues stretch during delivery.

Mild laxity of the anterior vaginal wall, which can give the appearance of a slight bulge without being a true urethrocele.

Postpartum tissue thickening or scar-related changes, which often soften over time.

A true urethrocele usually comes with symptoms like stress urinary incontinence, a sensation of pressure, or difficulty with urination. Since you’re not experiencing any bladder issues or SUI, that makes a urethrocele much less likely.

Overall, what you’re describing sounds more consistent with a benign, postpartum anatomical variation rather than a prolapse or something harmful. These changes often continue to improve gradually as tissues fully heal.
