Help with the surgical removal of Bellafill (permanent PMMA filler) - Can it be removed if diffuse in cheek area?
About a year ago, I made the mistake of trying Bellafill for my acne scars. I had only two syringes, one per cheek, but I am experiencing chronic pain, swelling, and irritation in the area treated. Despite the relatively small amount, there has been a noticeable change in my appearance, and it is not an improvement. My acne scarring has not improved. I have also already tried steroid injections multiple times. I am highly distressed by this and am seriously considering having this filler surgically removed. I have already consulted with a plastic surgeon who has agreed to do this. He specializes in removing permanent fillers, but seems to prioritize product removal over aesthetic results. I do not want to be disfigured any more than I already am. During a consultation with another surgeon, he refused and said that because the product is dispersed, it would be difficult to remove. He told me to come back if I develop nodules, which would be easier to target. I have not developed nodules, but I am clearly experiencing an immune reaction because my cheeks feel heavy and irritated, and they have felt this way since three months post-injection. My main question is whether surgical removal of Bellafill is possible in the cheeks without nodules. I would prefer a facelift incision. Would Bellafill be visible and able to be scraped out, or is this wishful thinking? I would be happy to hear from anyone who has experience with this. But especially from any surgeons who have removed it
