In our practice, we tell patients to expect two weeks of fluctuating symptoms, whether that be bruising, swelling, soreness, tightness, etc. We ask that they refrain from vigorous exercise, jumping, and excessively chewy foods for 2 weeks as well. For the first week or sometimes longer, laughing and smiling can feel uncomfortable. In many/most cases, people are able to go back to work the next day despite all of this- everyone is a little bit different when it comes to healing. Hope this helps! PDO threads in general can be applied under local anesthesia very quickly. Common side effects include mild swelling, redness, bruising, and slight skin puckering.
- Pain/Discomfort may last from a few hours to a couple of days and is easily managed with analgesics. - Redness should not last more than a couple of days, and is usually very mild. If redness persists, or the area treated gets warm, red and enlarged you should contact your physician. - Skin puckering can last for two or three days but usually resolves by applying soft massage over the area. - If you notice any bruises these should resolve in about a week.
The threads dissolve within six months, but due to the stimulation of collagen and elastin around them, the effects typically last 12–18 months.
