I had rhinoplasty/septoplasty 7 months ago and since 3 months ago I started getting this crust inside my nose with burning sensations. I already went to see my surgeon but he said nothing is wrong that everything is healing ok, there is no infection. Sometimes the crust get really attached to my skin that can't clean it through blowing, I get this in my septum to. Is this normal? What could it be the reason of this crust?

Answer: Post-Op Nasal changes Thanks for your question. Of course its hard to give a concrete answer based just on pictures, but I would not be too concerned. There are a lot changes that occur inside the nose after rhinoplasty, and this leads to a lot crusting. It is part of the healing process. If your doctor is not concerned about infection, an easy way to address these problems is with a sinus rinse (salt water). This will reduce the crusting and your chance of getting a real infection. Good luck!

Answer: Crusting after Rhinoplasty Dear sureso23, Some crusting after rhinoplasty is normal however seven months post surgery is a prolonged recovery period. I would speak with your surgeon regarding treatment of the crusting. These may include the use of possible nasal sprays, a humidifier, and/or a steroidal spray. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
