Tear trough injections. To massage or not to massage?

I had tear trough injrctoons done about two weeks ago. The right side is good, but the left has a bunch of swelling underneath. Like in the fat pad where she didn't inject. She put micro depot injections on the bone because I'm so thin. At first I was told to massage by her assisstant but then not to when I saw her because she said it was really common and she couldn't feel any swelling just residual swelling to the right eye. What should I do?!

Hi @Anon487566! I don't recommend that you massage the area. It can take up to two weeks for the final results of your tear trough injections. If you are still unhappy after two weeks, you can reverse it with hyaluronidase. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

I do not recommend massage. See you injector and discuss your results. You may need some hyaluronidase to reduce the side that is "swollen".

This is difficult to answer without pictures. It takes 1-2 weeks for final results with tear trough injections. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. I recommend injections with cannulas to limit swelling. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

your question SEDK. I understand your concern. Fillers are used to
restore lost volume in and enhance the appearance of the face. Different doctors provide different recommendations and that is fine. For my patients I recommend gently massaging the are for 5 minutes at a time, 5 times per day, for the first 5 days. Applying moisturizer prior to massage makes it easier. This serves to smoothen out any lumps or bumps. Please
consult with a doctor for specific recommendations.  Good luck!

Please see your physician, he/she will take care of it by injection some enzyme in the swelling.

Thank you for your question. I would recommend if it has been several weeks after the procedure to have your physician inject hyaluronidase to dissolve a small amount of the filler that is causing the swelling. It is a quick and easy thing to do and should resolve the problem effectively within minutes. Best of luck, hope this helps!

As a general rule, you should not be massaging fillers.  The only "filler" where it is recommended to massage is Sculptra because it is a biostimulant rather than a filler.  Swelling after a hyaluronic acid filler is not that uncommon and should settle down on it's own. Best.

I recommend not massaging at this point because it should have set by now.  I don't advise patients to massage on the day of the procedure as it can spread to areas you don't want.  Tear troughs are very tricky.  Good luck.
