What is the best scar cream for after Breast Augmentation?

Hi Doctors! I am one week pre-op and I am starting to get all my stuff ready for surgery. I am in need of a good scar cream and I want to hear your suggestions. Thank you! PS-if you are living in Seattle, enjoy this beautiful day today! We are getting so lucky!

Scar creams don't work. I doubt they do any harm but I would ask your own surgeon how he wants you to deal with the scar after the operation.

Finding "the best" of anything is a difficult question to ask.  If there was one that was so much superior to all the others- everyone would know about it and use it. That being said, I prefer to use a silicone based scar cream.  In the plastic surgery literature, silicone has the most research in after scar care.  Silicone scar creams differ in their consistency and content of silicone and that is why I chose -Biocorneum for my patients.  It is only available for purchase through doctor's offices.  Talk to your board certified plastic surgeon, I am sure they recommend a particular scar cream.Finally it is not enough to just buy a scar cream.  You have to use it at least daily, once your scabs are gone.  Also, putting an appropriate amount of pressure during your scar massage are vital to help your scars and make your purchase worthwhile. Silicone tape can help and has the most sound scientific background to support its use. I recommend using it after the wound has healed 2 weeks after surgery.

Thank you for your question.It will be in your best interest to ask your surgeon for a recommendation for scar creams that he/ she suggests for after surgery. In my practice, I have found that silicone based products work well. Best wishes with your upcoming surgery.

There are a few different options I recommend for scar treatment post surgery. I have my patients start with scar fade 2 weeks after surgery, applying the cream once daily. If my patients do not notice improvement in their scars fading I then recommend two other options for them to try, silicone scar sheets or bio oil serum.
