FAR Infrared Sauna after breast augmentation is it safe?

Question

I am Almost 5 weeks post op breast augmentation and I am trying to find information regarding FAR Infrared Sauna after BA surgery. So far I couldn't find any clear answer if it is safe or not. It is that same type of heat that being used in our Hot power yoga studio. I know it's to early for me to go back to yoga so I thought maybe I will be able to use Far Infrared sauna. Thank you for your question.  This is a tough one, you won't find any study that has been done that will give you an definitive answer.  I recommend  calling your surgeon and following his/her instructions.   If you were my patient, I'd most likely have you wait a few more weeks.   Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your question. I would defer to your plastic surgeon on this one. I cannot see anything that would compromise the results at this point, but you could also play it safe and wait until the 3 month post-op point to consider these types of things. At this point in your healing – almost 5 weeks –  there should be no harm in your using the FAR infrared sauna. If you have never used it before, make sure you check with the facility about the general health recommendations for use. I seriously doubt that you will find a study on this topic. I would suggest that you speak with your surgeon as he or she has seen you in person and knows how you are healing. Personally, I would recommend that you wait as extreme heat often results in swelling. Hope this helps --

Congratulations on your breast augmentation.  At 5 weeks after surgery you are still in the "inflammatory phase" of wound healing.  This means that you have  increased blood supply with dilated blood vessels to the healing area.  Any extreme heat will cause further dilation of the blood vessels and possibly more swelling.  If you were my patient I would wait until he released 3 months postop before any type of extreme heat..

I am certain that your doctor will have an opinion on this and you should go by their instructions, not those of on line doctors. I would personally say to hold off on that for 3 months.

I would not recommend this if your have textured or silicone implants and have a detoxificiation defect as I have had many patients become ill due to heat from this and other sources in that case.
