Hello! My name is Jessica, I am a physician assistant, and one of the providers at Aesthetic Skin in Winnetka and Chicago. This is a great question. Lip filler can sometimes cause wrinkles or accentuate lines that weren’t as noticeable before the treatment. This can happen for a few reasons: Volume Increase: Adding volume with fillers can shift the surrounding skin, potentially highlighting pre-existing lines or creating new ones if the skin isn't as elastic or smooth as expected. Product Migration: Sometimes, the filler can migrate from the targeted area, settling in places where it’s not desired, which might create or emphasize wrinkles. Overfilled Lips: If too much filler is used, it can stretch the skin beyond its natural capacity, leading to a less smooth appearance and accentuating lines around the lips. Skin Elasticity: The skin around the lips is delicate and has less elasticity. When filler is injected, the increased volume can sometimes cause the skin to stretch unevenly, making fine lines more noticeable. Technique: The technique used by the injector plays a significant role. Inexperienced or unskilled providers might place the filler unevenly, which can affect the smoothness and appearance of the lips. Natural Aging Process: As you age, the skin loses collagen and elasticity. Even if the filler helps to plump the lips, the aging process may still affect how the skin looks around the lips. If you’re concerned about new wrinkles or changes after getting lip fillers, consider discussing these issues with your injector. I hope this helps and best of luck!
