Dermal fillers and diminished vascularity - how common is this?

Hi Dr's, I've read about a number of cases where individuals who have had HA fillers for many years had diminished blood flow in the region reported by the surgeon carrying out a face-lift. How common is this or is the risk of diminished vascularity a side effect of all fillers being placed in the face? Thank you

Many of my colleagues have reported concerns about deep scarring and decreased vascularity during facelift in patients who have had multiple nonsurgical procedures - this is more likely with Sculptra, and treatments like RF microneedling, targeted ultrasound etc than with remote HA filler. I would not personally lift a facelift flap encompassing a region of current HA filler due to vascularity concerns. If you are considering facelift I recommend to my patients dissolving all fillers first and give the tissue at least 4-6months healing time prior to proceeding with the surgery in try to minimize the risks.
