Hello, and thank you for your question regarding whether you need a lower back lift or will VASER and skin tightening suffice. Thank you for your history and your pictures. Based on your pictures, you appear to have excess skin on your superior iliac crests (also known as love handles) and the lumbar region (also referred to as the lower back). From your pictures, you have more skin than fat. Liposuction is best suited for isolated areas of fat. Liposuction treats fat, not skin. Even with the best VASER, these procedures will only remove fat. Even with radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening treatments, such as Renuvion, the skin will be minimally tightened. You would do better with a lift. Typically, a lift would be a posterior buttock lift. The posterior buttock lift would be an incision that connects your tummy tuck to the top of your vertical buttock crease. Your resulting scar would be an incision like a belt, all the way around your body from the top of your vertical buttock crease to the top of your pubic region. During the posterior buttock lift, an incision is made in the upper portion of your buttock. Then, tissue dissection is carried down the buttocks. Excess lower back and upper 1/3 buttock skin is removed. The upper buttocks are raised and reduced. Most plastic surgeons would suggest you do not waste your money on VASER and Renuvion RF skin tightening in a case such as yours. Go with the posterior butt lift. Good luck. I hope I have answered your question about whether you need a lower back lift or will VASER and RF skin tightening work. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen, MD, MBA.
