If there are enlarged/ropy varicosities in the lower abdomen and hips then you need to have your deep veins examined first as this could be a sign of obstruction of the iliac vein and the large veins on the lower abdomen are acting as a bypass route for the obstructed deeper veins. If they are just spider veins then probably fine to treat. Go see a vein specialist.
