Not all septoplasties are the same. Factors that affect healing after a septoplasty include 1) amount of surgical dissection required to correct the deformity, 2) surgical approach - internal or external incisions, 3) your body's own ability to heal. A septoplasty alone requires less healing than a septoplasty plus rhinoplasty. In closed septoplasty the majority of swelling should resolve in the first 2 weeks. Typically patients have significant breathing improvements after the internal splints are removed at 1 week and breathing continues to improve. Revision septoplasties take longer to heal (on average, double the time it's takes a primary septoplasty to heal). You need further work up of your external and internal nose to make sure that there is not another anatomical concerns (example: valve collapse, large turbinates) or disease process (example: polyps, allergies). If these conditions are present you may require a rhinoplasty, sinus surgery, allergy treatment. Often times after surgery patients have crusting inside nose and requires nasal irrigations to clean. Typically the tip does not swell after a closed septoplasty (internal incisions only) alone, so you will need to be examined by your surgeon. I wish you the best.
