Like all post surgical wounds, they can get infected or swell. Infection is not usually a problem after two weeks because the superficial incision line is healed closed. Swelling can occur up to three months post op. Physical exertion, elevated temperature and body position can increase the swelling of early healing wounds but this goes away with time.
Ideally wait for a good two weeks. The area should no longer be tender, red or swollen and then you know that it is healed. If there is any residual tenderness, redness or swelling then wait until this has healed before getting the area hot or wet.
