There are totally different types of fractionated lasers. Fraxel is the name of a brand laser that has both ablative and nonablative types. Co2 Laser is a type of laser that has different types such as SmartSkin. I suggest you see your physician for a consult to determine what type of laser is best and then they can decide on the specific device once the type is decided. Best, Dr. Emer.
Thank you for your question! Fraxel is a brand of lasers and they have a line of lasers that are different. SmartSkin CO2 is not a Fraxel laser. It is an ablative laser. What that means is that it is more invasive but can deliver improved results when it comes to aging to serious scarring. I would suggest you to find a provider with experience who can tell you what type of laser will work the best for you. Best of luck!

The SmartSkin CO2 laser is an ablative fractional laser. The Fraxel brand of lasers are fractional lasers that can be ablative or non-ablative, depending on which device is being used. There is a good description of the different Fraxel lasers in the previous response. Depending on your skin type and the condition being treated, your laser expert will discuss which would be the best treatment for you.
Smart skin is a CO2 laser but not a Fraxel laser. There are several Fraxel lasers thought. There is the original Fraxel which is called the SR1500 and is a 1550 wavelength. The Fraxel re:store is a modification of the SR1500. Then there is the Fraxel re:pair, which is a CO2 laser. The Fraxel Dual came next, and it is the original wavelength 1550 and the 1927 (Thulium) wavelength. The Clear and Brilliant laser is their most recent laser and it is a 1440 and 1927 wavelength. The 1927 is used for pigmentation issues and precancerous lesions. The 1550 and 1440 are used for wrinkles, scars mainly. The re:pair is used for more aggressive treatment of wrinkles, scars, pigmentation.
