Hello, I will be getting a full body skin exam soon for the first time and was wondering if it would be worth it to have this mole checked out. It's located under a lot of pubic hair and is easy to miss.

It’s definitely worth pointing out during your full body skin exam, especially because lesions in areas covered by pubic hair can be easy to overlook during routine self-checks. Moles in the genital or pubic region are actually not uncommon, and many are completely benign, but any spot that is difficult for you to monitor yourself deserves a closer look.

Asymmetry
Border irregularity
Color variation
Diameter larger than about 6 mm
Evolving or changing over time

Even if a mole does not meet those criteria, it is still reasonable to have it examined if it is new, changing, irritated from shaving/friction, itching, bleeding, or simply hard to visualize regularly.

During your skin exam, make sure to specifically mention the area to your dermatologist so it is not accidentally missed. We rely heavily on patients pointing out spots in hair-bearing or intimate regions because they can be hidden during a standard visual scan.

The good news is that most moles in this area turn out to be benign, but having it evaluated now is the safest and most reassuring approach.
