What is the best advice for pre and post laser (PicoSure) treatment care for better healing?

Dressings are recommended if there are blisters or a raw de-epithelialized surface. If there is not, then a bland ointment is all that is necessary. Most treatment sites, even if blistered or open, heal within 5-7 days. Keeping them covered with a non-stick dressing, changing it once or twice a day for the first few days, then daily are sufficient.The beam profile of the Medlite YAG laser is flat, so blistering or sores are not common.I have not used Picosure, but when we used the ruby laser, every treatment site resulted in a raw area that we treated with dressings for up to a week.

Thank you for your question. If blistering has occurred you can apply Bacitracin ointment and a clean dressing daily and protect the treated area from the sun. It can take 1-2 weeks for burns to heal and you may have some pigment changes, which typically are not permanent. Darker tattoos are best treated with PicoSure using a lower fluence on the first few treatments and then increasing the fluence and the boost on subsequent treatments.  This will decrease the risk of blisters and prolonged healing and the possibility of scars.  If blistering has already occurred, check with your doctor for recommendations for healing.  Products like NeoCutis BioSerum or Obagi Regenica along with an antibotic cream or ointment and a non stick dressing may hasten the healing process and reduce the risk of scarring.
