Does the endoscopic facelift require screws to be put in your face??

Question

I had an endiscopic facelift (lift my cheeks) about 4 months ago. Went to the dentist couple days ago and found out that I have screws (2) in face and the doctor never told me about putting screws but the strings to hold my cheeks, which is suppose to disappear within an year.

It is best to discuss what you have been told by the dentist with your plastic surgeon. Get their explanation as to what exactly what was done.

There are many choices and techniques, some use surgeons use absorbable sutures or screws and other use permanent one. Always best to find out from your original surgeon.

Plastic surgery procedures follow the same principles of medicine in general-- that is-- a diagnosis must be accurate and the treatment appropriate. This follows the general belief and commitment to evidence based medicine. The diagnosis of the face when it droops and sags-- is clear. The best method to remove excess sagging skin and muscle is a time tested facelift operation. This will include advancement of the deep tissues as well as excision and removal of the excess skin. In my opinion, there is no place for endoscopic facelift in today's practice.

Most plastic surgeons have abandoned endoscopic facelifts. Although screws are not necessary there sometimes used as part of the procedure to support the lift.

It is not unusual for very small screws to be used to help suspend the facial tissues.  The screws are used as an anchor for the sutures that hold up the tissues.  If the screws are symptomatic, they can be removed.

It is rare to ever see and endoscopic facelift any more. Mini screws were used to hold the suspension sutures in place. Typically these have a very low profile ( standing away from the bone), in many cases less than 0.5mm and typically titanium. I would discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Good LuckStephen M. This operation still has great value in select individuals and is usually done with a dissolvable suspension device but there are many variations.  Discuss this with your surgeon--you should know what's in there.
