I have lost 29, 30, 31 and got 3 implants placed. Today when i got to the office the doctor proposed the following: instead of having each teeth (permanent crown) separated, he proposed to bond/connect them together. He stated that it will be more practical and less pressure. So I am wondering if this is indeed better? Any advice or recommendation?
Answer: Connecting/Splinting implant crowns Implants are like teeth in that they give us a surface to chew on and the ability to smile. Teeth however behave differently then implants because a tooth has a shock absorber, the ligament. Implants are rigid in the bone and this is what we have to be careful about. This rigidity means that stress can get concentrated on the implant and lead to bone loss, screw loosening and screw fractures. By connecting/ splinting several implants together the stress of the bite gets divided over a larger surface area and therefore the stress is spread out. What we are giving up is the ability to floss easily. You can still floss a splinted crown with special aids. My recommendation splint when you can. Best of luck.

Answer: Splinting implant crowns Although it is my preference to keep the crowns individual for cleaning purposes, I sometimes will splint them if the implant placement was less than ideal or if they are not anchored very well in the bone.

Answer: 3 individual or fused crowns Hi there,This treatment option will vary from dentist to dentist, and without seeing you, and evaluating x-rays - it is hard to truly determine whats best for you. If you don't have a lot of bone supporting those implants, the dentist may be concerned with overloading them invdividually, and it might be better to have a bridge. If the bone level is adequate and the implants are soundly integrated into bone, I believe individual crowns are better in the long run to maintain hygiene since you can clean them easier. Also, if something happens to one of the implants in the bone, and all your crowns are joined together - then all 3 crowns are affected vs. just one. There are pros and cons to both - but I would discuss these concerns with your dentist to better understand why they are choosing one option over another.Good luck!

Answer: Connect or not to connect implant crowns It's a complex issue, connecting or not connecting crowns for a bridge. On one hand, in my experience, it's easier to maintain and floss independent crowns. However, bridges tend to be more sturdy. It is important that a proper contact be created between the crown if they are left separate otherwise food will always get stuck between them. It's much harder to floss and maintain bridges then independent crowns. Speak to a prosthodontist for a second opinion.

Answer: Implant crown conected IT ISN´T. When you have separated crown, the theeth workks normaly but if you conected the crowns it will be difficult for cleaning. Some extra care is necessary to keep the underside of the bridge nice and clean, as it is prone to collecting plaque. Since the fake tooth is rigidly joined to the teeth either side it is not possible to floss in the normal way and super floss is needed.- Why the doctor deside to do that? If sometimes people preffer to put the implants just for avoid the bridgeGood luck!
