This is an interesting question. It is possible that you need to practice showing your teeth when you smile by allowing your lips to part. Try it in front of a mirror and see if you can find another way to smile that allows your lips to part. I think you might surprise yourself. Good luck!
It is possible your new retainer is moving your tooth to the proper place or it could be incorrectly made. My suggestion is you have a talk with your orthodontist to determine which it is. Good luck!

The real problem appears to be that your lower jaw is retruded. You need what is called a neuromuscular dentist. Ideally, your palate(upper jaw) would be expanded with a functional removable appliance and then your lower jaw could actually be positioned more forward with restorations like crowns...
