Simple cyst on Areola Removal Cost and procedure? (photo)

Question

Hello, I was told it is a cyst that I have on my areola. But it is not covered since it's considered "cosmetic" since it's not affecting anything. Regardless, i really dislike how it looks and want it removed. Can I get more information on cost and procedure? It is the size of a pea. It doesn't hurt. From time to time, a little bit of white stuff comes out, like a pimple. If anybody has had this removed, give me your story! I'm nervous.

Montgomery glands are a normal part of a woman's areola - but sometimes individual glands can get inflamed, enlarged, and/or cause a woman to be self-conscious.   It is possible to remove them with a very small incision in the office under local anesthesia.  This should not be a very expensive procedure - probably less than $500-$1000 depending on the practice and location.  Best wishes,Dr. Michelle Spring

Hi,The cyst you are referring to is called a Montgomery gland. It's function is to keep the areola moist and healthy (especially during lactation). Yours could easily be removed by making a small incision around it and removing it. Removing it will in no way cause any problems as you have several glands per areola.
